Vortioxetin is an anti-depressive agent of the ‘SARI‘ Group of serotonin antagonists and re-uptake inhibitors. This medication is administered for cases of major depression, whereby the broad spectrum of depressive syndromes is therapized. The agent is a serotonin modulator and stimulator and inhibits the re-uptake of serotonin, and thus enhances the concentration of the neuro-transmitter in the central nervous system. The active ingredient becomes bound to a variety of serotonin receptors, as being a partial agonist and antagonist in itself. This has effects on various other neuro-transmitter systems. Frequent side effects are nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and itching of the skin.
