EBV IgA antibodies occur in fresh and reactivated EBV infections. The determination is particularly helpful in the question of a reactivation: In these cases, the sole determination of IgM and IgG is often inconclusive.
EBV reactivations are the resumption of lytic virus replication and may be associated with long-lasting and / or massive immune dysfunction.
Note: EBV IgA are automatically co-determined in patients> 15 years of age with clearly positive VCA IgM, IgG and EBNA IgG.
