Alcohol intolerance ADH1B, ALDH2
Material & Volume
EDTA Blood, 1ml
Clinical information
This is a genetic examination. Please send us a completed consent form.
In genetic alcohol intolerance, alcohol metabolism is disturbed. For example, increased activity of the enzyme alcohol dehydrogenase 1B (ADH1B) leads to faster accumulation of the toxic degradation product acetaldehyde. A disorder can also occur in the breakdown of acetaldehyde by the enzyme acetaldehyde dehydrogenase 2 (ALDH2). Alcohol intolerance is particularly prevalent in some Asian populations. We are using Sanger sequencing to analyse two of the most common variants that can lead to alcohol intolerance (ADH1B*2 and ALDH2*2).
